Ys Origins is the prequel of Ys 1&2, taking place 700 years prior in the Tower of Darm. It provides the back story for the events that transpired before Adol Christin arrived centuries later.

This is a prequel standalone. You don’t really need to play Ys1&2 but it can fill you in on some plot points if you care about the overarching story.

There once was a prosperous kingdom known as Ys ruled by the twin goddesses, Reah and Feena, along with their six priests. Through the use of the Black Pearl, the goddesses enacted
miracles and made the kingdom a paradise.
One day, foreign demons from another land invaded Ys.
Overwhelmed, the people of Ys used their magic to move the kingdom to the skies but the demons were relentless in their
pursuit and the Darm Tower was constructed with it ascending higher
continuously. An all-out war had begun between the forces of Ys and those in the Darm Tower. In the midst of this, the twin
goddesses disappeared. A search party was sent down to the surface to find the missing goddesses and bring them back. The only place left in the desolate wasteland was the Tower itself.

You may play 3 characters: Yunica Tovah, Hugo Fact, and Toal Fact

Yunica is the Power Close/Midrange character like Adol Christin using sword/greatsword
Hugo is the Magic Ranged user using the Eyes of Fact.
Toal is the Speed-Based Close range only character using claws.
You have to play through Yunica or Hugo first to unlock Toal.
